La Sylphide

“La Sylphide” Felix Landerer, Eide Rodriguez
|
Using classical ballet as a base, Lansdale develops a vocabulary full of unbelievable shapes and forms, which gives every movement a meaning. The choreography between James and his two ever changing female partners had something sensational about it, the flexible - acrobatics of the bodies clinging to each other, then parting and reuniting is full of magic and simply overwhelmingly grandiose.
Jürgen Schmidt, Westfalen-Blatt
Bielefeld’s new ballet director Philip Lansdale tells the danced story in a very intelligent and entertaining form. The story line is transported into modern society... He is a good story teller. His technique is greatly influenced by his use of modern dance, the virtuosity seams to come out from the stomach, with out using the strict mechanical classical architectural form.
Marieluise Jeitschko, Neue Osnabrücker
Finally the Bielefeld ballet is being spoken of in a positive light, with Lansdale’s amusing, new interpretation of this old romantic classic “La Sylphide”.
Marieluise Jeitschko, Welt am Sonntag
.., it is a good compromise between, up till now classical ballet and the new modern dance theatre... short, light and amusing, a good new start.
Tanz Affiche, Österreich
... Philip Lansdale and his company gave a convincing start to their first season. The handwriting is new, but full of eye catching choreography, it will certainly form new fan groups.
Eckhard Britsch, Neue Westfälische
